Today, we’re excited to announce a massive redesign of Hiro’s Teams system: a comprehensive framework that brings the full depth of Hiro’s player-level systems to the group level. We call it Teams 2.0 .

Why Teams 2.0 Changes Everything

Teams 2.0 is a feature-rich ecosystem designed to solve the challenge of long-term player retention through social investment. Whereas the previous Teams iteration allowed players to band together and form groups (also known as guilds or clans), that was the extent of it. Now, many of the features that were only available to individual players - like Achievements, Inventory, and Stats, to name a few - are also available to Teams.

When players contribute to team progression or help their guild advance through leaderboards, they build lasting value that extends beyond individual sessions. This transforms teams from temporary social convenience into meaningful long-term relationships.

Shared Resources That Drive Engagement

Team Wallet

Teams can now earn and manage multiple currencies collectively. Whether they’re from raid rewards, member donations, or even in-app purchases, Teams have dedicated wallets to accumulate shared resources that benefit all members.

Team Store

Spend team currencies on exclusive team rewards, upgrades, and resources, which in turn benefit all team members as well. This creates strong incentives for teamplay and resource pooling.

Team Inventory

Teams can collect and manage shared inventory items, where team admins can then decide how they are used (and by whom). Add another layer of strategic resource allocation to your team-based game loop.

Collective Goals That Keep Players Coming Back

Team Achievements

Team members can now work together on collective achievements, which may be one-off or recurring. Just like their player-level counterparts, these team achievements come with their own preconditions, sub-achievements, and reward structures.

Team Event Leaderboards

Compete on a whole new level with team-based leaderboards, where individual contributions combine into total team scores. Teams can participate in large-scale tournaments with their own promotion/demotion rules and tier-based rewards.

Team Stats

Keep track of statistics that matter to Teams, from collective playtime to objectives completed. Both public stats (visible to all) and private stats (internal team metrics) are supported.

Enhanced Communication & Coordination

Team Mailbox

Rewards can now be sent directly to a Team Mailbox, allowing you to defer the granting of rewards to a later date. Perfect for seasonal events, admin gifts, or community recognition.

Advanced Team Gifts

Teams can generate personalized gifts for players based on their activity levels, creating incentivizing reward systems that recognize both individual contribution and team loyalty.

Smarter Team Management Features

In addition to all the exciting new features available to Teams, developers and team admins now have more ways to measure their players’ engagement levels as well as curate the experience for new players.

Activity Tracking: Team admins can track player activity, such as last login date, and overall team engagement to understand how their team is doing. Activity tracking can also be used to help new players find teams that match their own activity level through features like team search.

Team Chat: The chat system has received an upgrade - admins can now create pinned announcements that are seen by all members, with the option to see who has viewed the message or not.

Team Membership Controls: Players can be restricted to join only one team at a time, configurable by the developer.

To accommodate the changes made to Teams, we’ve taken a long look at how Rewards behaved previously and updated the entire system accordingly. Any reward across Hiro’s gameplay systems can now be directed to grant into a team’s Mailbox as well as the newly available player’s Mailbox. Read more about all the new things you can do in the Rewards concept guide.

The Result: Players Who Stay for Their Teams

Teams 2.0 represents a fundamental shift in how we think about group-based systems. By bringing the full power of Hiro’s progression systems to Teams, we’ve created a framework where social bonds translate directly into gameplay value.

These new Team features are now available as part of the latest Hiro release, v1.26. Check out our Teams documentation to start building the guild system your game deserves.
