Heroic News: May 2023
Showcase
We’re proud of the products and services we provide here at Heroic, but we’re perhaps even more proud of the games that our work enables others to develop and grow. In this section we like to shout out new releases powered by the Heroic Game Stack, as well as some of our personal favorites.
“Rule a fantasy realm of your own design! Explore new magical realms in Age of Wonders’ signature blend of 4X strategy and turn-based tactical combat. Control a faction that grows and changes as you expand your empire with each turn!”
From Triumph Studios and Paradox Interactive, the latest installment in the Age of Wonders series released on May 2, 2023 to very positive reviews and a strong debut.
Quickly becoming the fastest selling installment in the series and reaching over 42k CCU in week 1, we’re proud to be powering this title.
We recently sat down with Arno van Wingerden, Co-founder of Triumph Studios, and Michel Paulissen, Lead Backend Developer for Age of Wonders 4, to talk about the development of the game and using Nakama to power its social and competitive features. Read the full case study here

Studios are Growing Their Games with Satori LiveOps Â
Satori is taking off, some of our largest partners are running dozens of instances across their games to capture events, segment audiences, and run experiments and live events.
We’ve created dedicated showcases of just what you can expect from Satori’s Event Capture and Segmentation Engine.
Capture events in a high performance event pipeline, use taxonomies to structure data, and stream to your data-lakes for advanced analytics.
Enhance events with default, custom and computed properties. Filter and segment events into dynamic player audiences.
If you’d like to find out how easy it is to add game analytics and LiveOps to your game, get in touch and we can schedule a quick demo and you can speak to our development team.
A Bigger, Better Hiro
Hiro - our game development framework - continues to improve, with an expanded feature set and increased flexibility in the Economy and Rewards systems part of the latest release.
Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with one studio estimating a greater than 12 month gain in productivity for their development lifecycle! Hiro’s aim is enabling studios and developers to build and iterate faster than ever before, and we’re thrilled to see such great results and positive feedback.

Annual Heroic Offsite
At Heroic Labs, we’re always so focused on improving our products and services that we often forget to talk about the people behind the scenes. This is a short post to reflect on the team that makes Heroic Labs possible.
With a founding team passionate about distributed systems it may come as no surprise that Heroic Labs is also a distributed team, with team members working remotely from 3 continents and 8 countries.
Given the fully remote nature of our team, the majority of us rarely get to meet in person. As a growing team, this also means that new team members often join without having met anyone else on the team.
To help bridge this distance, we recently organized a team retreat in the beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal. The goal was to get to know each other better, and to spend some time together in person.
In this idyllic setting we spent a week together, working, eating, and playing games. We also took the opportunity to celebrate the grit and tenacity demonstrated by our team in moving from a single product to three products within a year, discuss the future of Heroic Labs, and to plan for the next year. We look forward to sharing these exciting plans with you over the coming months!
